Year 4

In Literacy and Maths in Year 4, we follow the New National Curriculum. We will be using exciting stimuli such as Harry Potter, Dr Seuss and Finding Nemo.

In Science we learn about all about States of Matter, Animals (including humans), Living Things and their Habitats, Electricity and Sound. To support our learning we have lots of practical investigations .

Our topics in Year 4 are:

Autumn 1 - Potions

Welcome to the amazing magical world of potions and their properties… We will use what we know about materials and their properties to create incredible potions in Professor Hazard’s Potions class!

Autumn 2 – Blue Abyss

This half term, we will be plunging underwater to find out about the lives on sea creatures, how the ocean is structured and the effect humans have had on the oceans. We will also be linking our Literacy work to Finding Nemo.

Spring 1 – Misty Mountains of Sierra

In this topic, we will be finding out all about how mountains are formed and investigating how human and physical characteristics have changed and impacted on the world around us.

Spring 2 – Playlist

We will be learning about how instruments are made and where in the world they come from. We will compose and perform our own music and write poetry and song lyrics.

Summer 1 – 1066

This half term, we will learn about the significant events of 1066. We will explore castles and defences as well as learning about how to deal with conflict. We will learn about the Bayeux Tapestry and try creating our own!

Summer 2 – Road Trip USA

Road Trip USA will involve planning our own journey from the west to the east coast of America. We will investigate the states and their landmarks. We will also find out about famous people, federal government and the discovery of America and the impact on Native American people.
